Happy Stuff Your Face Until You Want To Vomit Day !!!

So, this week is Thanksgiving week. Whether you are traveling to see family this week, or having them come to you, it's always a fun time to get together with friends and family and eat until you are literally, stuffed like a turkey. It's also a time for you to fight with relatives, want to pull your hair out , murder someone, and drink heavily..also, a fun time : ) I am going to be traveling to Dallas, Texas to see family there and i'm pretty excited about it ! A week off of work, kids have no school and did I mention all the great  food ? There's also the fact of tradition. Just about everyone I know has some sort of family tradition when it comes to the Holidays. For Thanksgiving, our family tradition is to put the Christmas tree and all decorations out a couple days before Thanksgiving,  eat and eat and eat , watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and then Home Alone. Then , of course, we always partake in Black Friday festivities....scary as they might be.  We've been doing this every year since I can even remember . This holiday week is also a week to catch up on books !! I'm still reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, it shames me to say so. I have been so busy these past few weeks that it's been a miracle if i've been able to read once a week ! That's another thing i'm looking forward to , is the chance to sit down and read and relax while i'm away. Although, with two small children, it might still be nearly impossible ! Anyhoo, this post was short and sweet and nothing spectaculiar, but I haven't posted anything since the beginning of October, so I thought i'd go for it. To everyone reading this, I hope you have an amazing Thanksgiving and always remember, stretch pants , although unattractive, are quite handy during this time of year.

HORROR MOVIES EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH DURING HALLOWEEN

So, it's no surprise to anyone that knows me, that October is my favorite month of the year. With the weather cooling down ,football, yummy fall foods, scarves and boots, and all the great fall activities, what's NOT to love about October ?? But, the most exciting thing about October is the spookiness of it. Curling up on a cool fall night with a terrifying horror movie is one of my most favorite things to do ! So with that being said, I'm going to list off a few of my  favorite horror movies that I think everyone should watch. Some aren't so horrifying, and some are, you'll see what I'm talking about in a second.

The first horror movie favorite of mine is the Halloween movies. The psychotic Michael Myers is a favorite of mine and has been since I was a kid and first saw this. My parents, like most, didn't fully allow me to watch movies that involved a masked serial killer stalking young teenage girls and stabbing them to death. So, I had to sneak and watch them ...and loved every gruesome minute of it. There are a total of 10 Halloween movies, with the last two being remakes from the original. Halloween 3 didn't focus on Michael Myers though, it  is called Season of the Witch and was based on children's Halloween mask that would end up killing them at a certain time on Halloween, it was certainly my least favorite of them all.
My second favorite is also the first real horror movie I ever watched. I was 7 years old, it was nearly Halloween and my parents had gone out to buy groceries while my grandmother watched me and my little sister. When my gran had nodded off  to sleep, I switched on the t.v. and the first thing I see is a old black and white movie showing two people wondering around a graveyard to creepy music and I was instantly hooked. Turned out that it was about zombies and I have been a zombie fanatic ever since. This is one movie that I have to watch every Halloween, no matter what. The simplicity of this movie is what I love the most. They didn't have to show tons of blood and gore to make this zombie movie terrifying, yet it had the same affect.
Now who doesn't love  the sad tale of Frankenstein ?! A monster created by a mad scientist who then is hunted down by the towns people and wanted dead. He's misunderstood and just wants to be loved, which lots of people can relate to, right? Although being made from pieces of dead people all put together isn't something any of us can quite relate to, but it makes for a good story !  There have been many remakes of this movie , but my favorite is the orginal from 1931. Boris Karloff was genius as Frankenstein ! And who hasn't ever had the urge to yell " IT'S ALIVE !!!! IT'S ALIVE !!!! "

Now on to vampires. I actually liked it when vampires didn't sparkle or fall in love with clumsy expressionless girls ,  let me just add that despite what i just said, i LOVE Twilight, but i love my vampires to be bad ass and scary as hell too ! First was Nosferatu in 1929. His long creepy fingers were enough to scare the bajeezus out of me, and although it was a silent movie it is still one of my favorites. Then came Dracula in 1931. I thought Bela Lugosi did a phenomenal job as Dracula . For the first time, Dracula wasn't some disgusting looking creature, he was good looking and had a way with the ladies, so to speak , which has since been the trend among vampires. To be sexual creatures instead of grotesque creatures. Although, some movies, such as 30 Days of Nights  , go back to the original , less attractive type of vampire.

So let's take a quick break from the horror movies and mention another less terrifying Halloween movie. Hocus Pocus. This movie has been one of my favorite things to watch during Halloween since i was 12 years old. The Salem Witch Trials has always been a fascination of mine. This movie takes those Salem witches and makes them funny and kid friendly. My kids love this movie just as much as I do. Give me a bowl of candy corn popcorn balls and pop in this movie and i'm a happy girl : )

Last but not least, It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. I don't know one single person, no matter how old they are, that doesn't watch this during Halloween. It's a classic and perfect . Charlie Brown in all his misfit glory gets stuck wearing the ghost costume with a thousand holes in it, while Linus and Sally sit out in a pumpkin patch and wait for the Great Pumpkin to make his appearance. I'm already looking forward to the night this comes on so i can snuggle up with my spawn and  enjoy this much loved movie ! This list is obviously short and there are a million other horror/halloween movies that i could add to it, but i just thought i'd add my favorites that i can't miss. Enjoy this spooky month everyone ! And watch these movies !

Down the Zombie Rabbit Hole

For my birthday, one of my dear dear friends, Angela Messer, sent me this book. Ever since i heard about it, months and months ago , I have been  dying to get my hands on it. It finally released on September 25th and I could not have been more excited !! Now, sometimes with a book, you simply read it, enjoy it, love it.  But, with this book..I devoured it, I dreamed of it,  I wanted inside this book, if only for a little while.  Alice ( Ali  ) Bell, has always lived a very sheltered life. A life that she was accustomed to but hated. Her father kept her family indoors at night and was on constant lookout for the " monsters " that no one ever saw but him. She always thought her father was crazy until one fateful night , when she saw for herself that those monsters were real and were now after her. The book is heartbreaking and exciting and thanks to Cole , sexy ! I love all things Zombie and this one had a huge twist to it...these weren't your typical rise from the grave and\ out to eat your organs type of zombies. These were totally different and it was fantastic !  I want to force this book on everyone I know and just hope that they love it as much as I do ! So, go out, get this book, and settle down for some amazing zombie fun !!!

They Say It's Your Birthday...Well It's My Birthday Too Yeah !

Well, another year of my life has gone by. This past Monday i turned the ripe old age of 32. I had mixed emotions about this years birthday.  I couldn't decide if I was depressed, excited, happy or two seconds away from finding the closest bridge and jumping from it. I'm not one of those people who don't mind ageing, I mind it. I mind it a LOT. But, this year i tried to look at my birthday as a comparison from last years birthday. Last year i had just seperated from my now ex husband, and I was so unhappy with my life that if it weren't for my two kids, i honestly don't know what would've become of me. This year, I'm divorced from a man that. was never good for me from the beginning and I'm beginning to accept things about my life that I can't change, at least not yet anyways. There are still  several things that I wish I could change about my life, but it will happen in due time I'm sure. But moving on from the depressing stuff, I also realized , again, what awesome friends I have. This past year has truly been hell for me, but my friends and family have made it bearable and I could never thank them enough. I also got a stack of books from some of my amazing Starbooks girls that I love so very much !! Thank you ladies and i love you !!

So, here's hoping that this next year is even better for me. That being 32 won't be as depressing as it sounds and who nows, maybe this time next year, i'll have met my prince charming , but you know...the bad boy version with a sexy smile and tattoos ; )

Why Women Of All Ages Love 50 Shades Of Grey and Books Just Like It.

Why is it , do you think , that millions and millions of women from young to old have fallen in love with books like 50 Shades of Grey ? Would it be that they're living out their fantasies through a character that they wish so very badl they were ? Are they escaping their normal boring lives to live vicariously through Ana and all her experiences ? Or are they just horny women who love to read smut ? Really, does it even matter ? These books have quickly become a favorite genre of books among women of all ages. They're sexy and exciting and so much fun to read and discuss with your fellow smut loving friends. I'm going to give my own personal opinion on this matter, because i know you're dying to know. I think it's a mixture of all of the above. Who wouldn't love a filthy rich gorgeous man with the sex drive of the energizer bunny to come chasing after them? No one, that's who. Whether you are married or single, these books make will any women fall head over heels in love. It seems that 50 Shades brought sexy back , as J.T. would say. Women have always enjoyed reading books with the leading lady being swept away by an overly gorgeous man dripping in sex appeal. When I was growing up i remember the old  Harlequin romance novels  being popular . I used to sneak and read them when I was 13 years old and thinking to myself how i couldn't wait to be old enough to do those things in the book, yeah judge all you want, don't act like you had nothing but angelic thoughts when you were a young teenage girl. I have always loved a book with good romance in it, and yeah, the naughtier the better. Lots of times, a good book will help you remember that first love feeling all over again, that feeling of excitment when things first started getting heated between you and your significant other. But , there's also a downside to these books that I have quickly discovered. They have ruined men for me. As a single mom of two who is trying to date again , it's a horrible experience. Men are still pigs , just like they were when you were dating in your teens and twenties, nothing has changed . So , I find myself constantly comparing every man I talk to to the men I have fallen in love with in these books. These men have their grand gestures of romance , they're all incredibly sexy and always say just the right things and not to mention that they're always a god in the bedroom. So a gal like me reads these books and gets spoiled by these fictional men ! Every other " real " man now seems boring and mediocre and I blame it on all these authors that are writing all these amazing books. I really shouldn't put all the blame on them, I have to take responsibilty for my ridiculously high standards. Thankfully, I am not the only one who is having these issues. Several of my friends, who happen to be married , are having the same thoughts I am ( just maybe a little less dirty ) since I have a tendency to be quite the pervert. ; ) So to authors like E.L.James , Sylvia Day , Jamie McGuire , Abbi Glines , Liz Reinhardt , and many many more than I know and love..thank you from the bottom of my heart for writing such steamy romantic books that I can't get enough of. Let the era of smut be long lived !!

How About A Little Mumford

I decided today to just write a short little post about one band that I can't stop listening to. Mumford and Sons. They are simply AMAZING. Their music is soulful and folky and just plain perfect. They're an English band, which makes them even hotter, right ? All of their songs are poetic with so much meaning in them that almost anyone can relate to any one of them.  I have to admit that during my divorce , listening to their Sigh No More album truly did help me.   Their debut album is called Sigh No More and their second album, Babel is to be released on September 24th, MY BIRTHDAY ! So please give them a listen if you haven't already, you won't regret it !

Just Me..That's All I Know How To Be.

So...this is my third attempt at having a blog so maybe the third time really will be a charm. I suppose i could've stuck with my second one and just wrote about the books i read, but then i realized i had so much more to talk about then just books. Although, books are right on up there with my kids with the things i love most . But to be honest, i just wasn't able to read enough books fast enough to keep up with  book reviews. So, I decided to just do a blog about anything and everything. My life, my loves and hates, food, books, music, sexy men, stupid people, zombies...you know, typical things that normal people enjoy, right ?  I guess i'll start with telling you just a little bit about myself. Ok here goes. My name is Mariam, i'm 31 , I'm divorced and raising two kids on my own. Isabella ( Bella ) Grace is my 5 year old daughter and Peyton is my 4 year old son. They are absolutely my two most favorite people in the world. I was a stay at home mom up until a year ago, when my now ex husband and I seperated. It was a huge adjustment going back to work and I missed being at home with my babies desperately, but a single mom does what she has to ! They are both in school now so that makes it a lot easier ! I love music, reading,  horror movies and halloween and I adore Christmas so very much. I'm addicted to coffee and my iphone. People annoy me on an every day basis, but there's also some that I can't live without talking to daily. I have a weird sense of humor and maybe i'm a little strange...but i'm ok with that, it keeps things interesting ; ) Well, i've been vain enough and rambled way too much about ME. I hope you enjoy this blog of mine. If it sucks, please tell me, so i can tell you to keep your opinion to yourself, but i'll say it with a smiley face : )
